Matsudaira Toshogu Shrine and Matsudaira-go
Matsudaira-go, or Matsudaira Village, is known as the beginning of the Matsudaira clan's family line, from which Tokugawa Ieyasu—the final unifier of Japan—came. The village sits atop a gently sloping hill with Mt. Horoku and Mt. Rokusho nearby as well as the flowing Tomoe River. You may also see Japan's beloved scarlet dwarf dragonflies flying around as just some of the wildlife in the surrounding, lush nature.
Also making Matsudaira-go home are many locations tied to the Matsudaira clan, such as Matsudaira Toshogu Temple—the former residence of the Matsudaira clan—and Bodaiji Temple, more popularly known as "Kogetsuin Temple", meaning "the Temple of the High Moon".
